Graduate Writing Center

We work with any writer in any discipline at any stage of the writing process. Our goal is to produce better writers, not just better writing.

Director: Claire Mischker, Ph.D.
Location: 310C J.D. Williams Library

The goal of the Graduate Writing Center (GWC) is to provide free consultations to help graduate students produce successful academic writing by further developing effective writing skills. Writers from any discipline or department are encouraged to seek assistance with any stage of the writing process: from conception to composition to revision, from first to final draft. We are here to help writers develop strategies to improve their own writing. Remember that we will make suggestions concerning your writing, but final decisions should always be made by you, as the author of your work, and your director or committee, if applicable.

During the 2013-2014 school year, Graduate Writing Center clients will work exclusively with Dr. Claire Mischker, who has considerable experience consulting with graduate students across the curriculum, including international graduate students, on a wide variety of documents at any stage of development.

All documents, if in draft form, must be word-processed, typed in 12-point font, and double-spaced. Providing the document before the consultation, by uploading it through WCOnline or providing a hard copy to the GWC, is strongly encouraged and time-efficient. In order to use the time most efficiently for YOU, we have imposed a maximum of approximately 20 pages per appointment; thus, if you have longer documents, you’ll want to make multiple appointments. It is also helpful if the documentation style of the assignment/document is provided, if applicable, such as MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.
